Janeeke's story

Janeeke, 14, lives in St. Kitts and Nevis, in a vulnerable community notorious for its high crime rate. The church is historically considered a safe space for children and Janeeke is actively involved in it, fundraising to maintain the space, with hopes to expand it, as a safe haven where children feel loved and accepted. Janeeke is public relations officer for the youth ministry and helps at summer camps. She also has a passion for dancing, and her solo piece, Caribbean Christian, calls attention to children who suffer abuse because of their religious beliefs. One day she hopes to start a mentorship program called Goal Digger, using netball as a positive, physical outlet for children in her community.
