The Iraqis have lost the past, but we don't want to lose the future. Do not give us death, but give us books. The fight of children is the fight of God.

Rawan's story

Rawan, 16, lives in Babylon. She is a passionate campaigner for children’s rights, fearless about fighting for truth and justice. She speaks out for better public services, for the promotion of reading and music among children and for aid for displaced children. Rawan uses every platform she can – from stage to screen – to call for a better future for the children of Iraq. In 2013, she led campaigns promoting reading and education in her community. In 2016, she founded Be with Us, Don't ignore Us, a humanitarian and educational project working to assist and reduce the suffering of 200 children displaced by Isis. Rawan dreams one day of creating an Iraqi children’s parliament.
