Yam's story

Yam, 15, lives in Nepal. Belonging to the “untouchable” class, he was often subject to bullying. Nevertheless, he took part in competitions, cultural programs and awareness programs which inspired him to do more for children’s rights, and for child participation in particular. He is chair of the district Child Club Network and has organized activities in child clubs and schools. He has managed to reduce the use of alcohol among child club members and to increase school enrolment rates. He has also committed himself to forest conservation and the reduction of child marriage. In the future, he wants to declare a child friendly local governance area with active participation of children in decision-making processes.
