Yasmeen's story

Yasmeen, 18, lives in Palestine. She has a hearing impairment but there are no special schools in Palestine for children with hearing difficulties. It can be difficult at her regular school, where the teachers have no specialized training, and her peers make fun of her. However, rather than let it get her down, it makes Yasmeen determined to speak out on behalf of people with disabilities. She is very active on social media and has attracted many views and followers on Snapchat and YouTube. Through these channels she shows that disability doesn’t stop people from achieving great things, and offers hope to disabled children and their parents. She gives them a voice, which she calls the ‘Shout of the Voiceless’. In the future Yasmeen wants to improve on her education and become an artist.
