Sofia was born and raised in Romania, a country where a heavy taboo lies on gender equality. She has built the Romanian chapter of the “Girl Up” movement. Her network now spans 5 cities and more than 40 active teen members. With her work she has gained endorsements from very prominent politicians and she was also able to sit down with various delegates and politicians. What is inspiring about her story is that she was able to connect her generation on a topic that was such a taboo. She built her network in under 10 months and she has already made massive strides towards the access to healthcare, education and safety of girls and women, sparking a long-term conversation.
